Course Description:  Consumer Math prepares students to make smart financial decisions in everyday life. Students will learn how to manage money, create budgets, understand banking, calculate taxes, evaluate credit, and make informed consumer choices. The course emphasizes real-world math skills, critical thinking, and financial responsibility needed for adulthood.

 

Course Objectives:  In this course, students will learn to:• Create and manage a personal budget• Understand income, wages, and payroll deductions• Use banking services responsibly• Calculate simple and compound interest• Understand credit, loans, and debt• Compare purchasing options and make informed consumer decisions• Understand taxes, insurance, and basic investing concepts

 

Classroom Behavior Expectations:

 1. Respect & Behavior• Treat the teacher, classmates, and yourself with respect at all times.• Use appropriate language; no profanity, insults, or teasing.• Follow directions the first time they are given.• Be honest in all academic work (no cheating, copying, or plagiarism).• Work must be original. Copying from classmates or online sources/AI without citations will not be tolerated.

2. Attendance• Be present every day unless excused according to school policy.• Notify the teacher ahead of time if a planned absence will interfere with tests, etc.• If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up missed work.

3. Technology Use• Technology is for academic purposes only during class.• Phones must be silenced and put away unless permission is given.• No social media, games, videos, or messaging during instructional time.• Misuse of technology may result in loss of privileges.

4. Class Participation• Participate actively in discussions, activities, and group work.• Raise your hand and wait to be called on.• Listen attentively when others are speaking.• Ask questions when you need help — curiosity is encouraged.

5. Growth Mindset• Mistakes are part of learning — effort matters.• Try your best, even when work is 

hallenging.• Support others and ask for support when needed.
