Course Objectives
In this class, students will learn to:
1. Use variables and algebraic expressions to represent and analyze mathematical relationships.
2. Simplify and evaluate expressions using the order of operations, properties of real numbers, and basic exponent
rules.
3. Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable and interpret solutions in real-world contexts.
4. Graph linear equations and inequalities on the coordinate plane and analyze slope, intercepts, and rate of change.
5. Analyze and solve systems of linear equations using graphing, substitution, and elimination methods.
6. Perform operations with polynomials, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and factoring.
7. Solve quadratic equations using factoring and other appropriate methods.
8. Apply algebraic reasoning to real-world problems, including word problems involving money, motion, and data.
9. Communicate mathematical thinking clearly, using correct notation, vocabulary, and step-by-step reasoning.
