Course Description: This class will cover the topics of Nutrition & Anatomy from a biblical worldview and at an upper elementary level. The approach will walk the students through each body system and examine foods and Nutrition that will help support each system.  Through this journey the students will also learn the structures and function of each system, for example the bones, the brain, nervous system, the heart, circulatory system, digestion, endocrine system, skin and much more. 

***There will be an element of cooking and preparing food so if your child has allergies please advise the teacher and we will make accommodations.

Course Objectives: 

  • The students will learn basic nutritional needs. 

  • They will be able to pick out the foods that are best for their body. 

  • They will understand how good Nutrition aids the body in working properly. 

  • They will understand how the major body systems work. 

  • They will have a handful of healthy recipes  that they can make themselves safely.

Grade Level: 3rd-5th

Class Time: Tuesday 10:20AM-11:35AM

Course Duration: Full Year

Required Book(s): Nutrition 101: Choose Life by Debra Raybern

Required Materials(s): Binder, paper, pencil

Supply Fee: $70 (to cover cost of food, materials weekly hands-on science experiments)

Classroom Expectations: Participate, respect the other classmates, complete assignments and have fun!

Grading Policies: Participation 30%, Homework 40%, Projects 30%

Grading Scale: 100%-90% A, 89%-80% B, 79%-70% C, 69%-60% D, 59%-0% F
