Course Description: This one semester course for high school students will introduce the basics of digital photography from the anatomy of a camera and how it works to how to edit and develop your own editing style.
The class will culminate in a gallery featuring the students’ best work as well as a printed photobook to take home.
Course Objectives: I aim for each student to leave this class with a better understanding of photography from start to finish as well as increased confidence in their skills as a photographer.
Grade Level: 9th-12th
Class Time: Tuesday 9:00AM-10:15AM
Course Duration: Semester 1 (Aug-Dec)
Required Materials(s): A digital camera (can be a phone camera) and a computer/phone/tablet.
Supply Fee: The cost of the photobook at the end of the class is an estimated $35-50
Classroom Expectations: All assignments should be completed prior to the deadline, and any late assignments may be penalized a full letter grade for each day they are late. The instructor should be notified in advance of any planned absences, and any assignments which affect a group project must still be completed and submitted on time.
Grading Policies: Participation: 40% Assignments/Projects: 50% Quizzes: 10%
Grading Scale: (90-100= A; 80-89=B; 70-79=C; 60-69=D; 59 or below=F)
Artificial Intelligence: For any assignment that shows evidence of having been plagiarized, AI-generated, or otherwise not the student's original work, the parent will be contacted and the assignment will be given a zero until if/when the parent verifies the originality of their child's work and requests a re-grade.

Course Requirements:

Participation in class is a large part of the learning process in this class and is therefore worth 40% of the student’s grade.

Students will be expected to complete their work on their own, without significant outside assistance. The only exception to this is for approved group projects.
