Course Description: Writing does not have to be stressful or boring! This course is designed for students 3-6th grade that have already have a foundation of writing. We will learn about the different grammar components that make up writing. Students will also be challenged with learning new and spelling words to help strengthen their essays. Using the different styles of writing, each student will learn how to set a plan and then using different topics to write about.
Course Objectives: Each student will be able to use their personality and their fun ideas through writing short stories and essays with the different styles of writing through descriptive, narrative,expository persuading writing with fun topics! This course gets them to prepare for middle school writing by enjoying how to writing through games and different activities that will help them each build on team work and encouragement!
Grade Level: 3rd-6th
Class Time: Tuesday 9:00AM-10:15AM

Required Materials(s): journal, folder, notebook, pencils, erasers, sharpener, color pencils, markers
Supply Fee: $15
Course Prerequisite(s): Must have a general understanding of writing and grammar structure. Students must be able to write at least one-two paragraphs already.
Classroom Expectations: Students are required to sit in class ready to go. Students must be respectful towards the instructor by listening. Students must turn in any work on time to be graded. Parents must report any planned or unexpected absences or tardies to the instructor to plan accordingly.
Grading Policies: Grading will be based on homework, class participation, attendence and test/projects.
Grading Scale: Class lecture or class work will be complete/incomplete. Test/final papers follow the normal grade scale (A: 90%-100%) (B:89%-80%).

About the Instructor: Hello! My name is Kayla Erickson. I am a mom here at Class Source and of course a homeschooling mom who already has a background in early childhood education. I taught prekindergarten for many years, and then ventured into teaching English for international students between the ages of 4-13 strictly online. I decided to join Class Source as an instructor because I felt the importance of giving back to the homeschool community. I am excited to offer a new course to make learning enjoyable for your young one!
