"Homeschooling FAQs" #14

**Disclaimer: All information presented on this blog is based on our best understanding of current homeschool laws in the state of Florida at the time of each posting, and in particular the homeschool laws for Hillsborough County, where Class Source is located. However, we are not legal experts, and the information posted in this group does not constitute legal advice. Homeschool laws can vary by county and state. If you are uncertain of the homeschool regulations and requirements in your area, please verify using your local resources. The HSLDA website has a resource which allows you to look up homeschool laws by state, and is a good place to start: https://hslda.org/legal.**

This week's FAQ is:

Will homeschooling create gaps in my child’s learning?

Have you ever talked to someone your age and realized they read different books than you did in school, or maybe even took different high school courses? All educational programs have gaps; the key is deciding where you want those gaps to fall. Just as some schools prioritize certain subject areas over others and some teachers gloss over the same information another teacher might emphasize, you have the choice with what to highlight or emphasize for your child’s education. We suggest sitting down and making a list of your true priorities for your child’s future. Is your top goal for them to be a person of integrity? To pursue and develop their talents and passions? To be socially adept and at ease with people? To excel in a particular skill or subject area you know they have a penchant for? To reach mastery of a subject area or skill you know they struggle in? To achieve certain accomplishments necessary to pursue a particular dream or goal? Once you know your priorities, you can decide where to focus your attention, so that even when the inevitable gaps happen in their education, you can be confident you’ve covered what matters most.
